Job Overview
As a Prison Officer at HMP Norwich you will protect the public and help make a positive impact on prisoners’ lives. You will work in a fast‑paced environment, building constructive relationships, supporting colleagues, and managing various shift patterns including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays.
Responsibilities
• Maintain order and ensure the safety of staff and prisoners.• Act as a peacekeeper, counsellor, and teacher when required.• Support prisoner rehabilitation and contribute to their welfare.• Work as part of a team to keep the prison safe and running smoothly.
Eligibility & Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Meet the Civil Service nationality requirements.
- Pass a medical and fitness assessment.
- Meet the required eyesight and hearing standards.
- Have no offensive or threatening tattoos; facial tattoos must be for cultural, religious, or medical reasons.
Pay & Benefits
Initial training hours: 37 per week. Post‑training, you may choose 37, 39 or 41 hours per week. Salary figures (no allowances shown):
- 37 hours = £34,928 per year
- 39 hours = £36,816 per year
- 41 hours = £39,334 per year
