Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Wigan | Full-Time | Permanent | 38 Hours per Week | Competitive Salary

The Role

As a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring plant and equipment operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and complete effective repairs
  • Conduct routine inspections and servicing of plant machinery
  • Strip, inspect, repair, and rebuild gearboxes, pumps, motors, conveyors, bearings, and shafts
  • Work closely with production teams to maximise uptime and productivity
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment
  • Liaise with external contractors when required
  • Follow safe systems of work (LOTO, permits, RAMS, risk assessments)
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities
  • Flexibility to work shifts and occasional overtime is required to support operational demands.

About You

We’re looking for a reliable, proactive engineer who works well under pressure and takes pride in delivering high‑quality work.

  • Experience within a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment
  • Strong mechanical fault‑finding and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Recognised mechanical engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent)
  • Strong problem‑solving ability
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Self‑motivated with strong attention to detail
  • A positive attitude and commitment to safety are essential.
