Shipping Manager / Senior Shipping Clerk

Location: London EC2 A. Salary: £30,000 – £45,000 DOE. Office based. Immediate start.

The Role

You will be responsible for coordinating international shipments from origin to final delivery, ensuring goods move efficiently, compliantly and cost‑effectively. For more experienced candidates, the role also includes negotiating contracts and freight rates with logistics providers and helping drive improvements across the supply chain.

Responsibilities

  • Managing international import and export shipments.
  • Liaising daily with freight forwarders, shipping lines, customs brokers, transport companies and warehouse partners.
  • Monitoring shipment schedules and resolving delays or delivery issues.
  • Preparing and checking Bills of Lading, Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Certificates of Origin and customs documentation.
  • Ensuring compliance with customs regulations and import requirements.
  • Coordinating deliveries with warehouse and internal departments.
  • Monitoring freight costs and identifying cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Negotiating freight rates and service agreements with logistics providers (Shipping Manager level).
  • Managing relationships with third‑party logistics providers and carriers.
  • Investigating shipment discrepancies and implementing corrective actions.
  • Producing shipping reports and maintaining accurate records.
  • Supporting continuous improvement across shipping and supply chain operations.

The Person

We are looking for an organised, commercially aware shipping professional who enjoys working in a fast‑paced international environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience within shipping, logistics, freight forwarding or supply chain.
  • Experience coordinating international imports and exports.
  • Strong understanding of shipping documentation and customs procedures.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Good commercial awareness with the ability to manage costs.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple shipments and deadlines.
  • For the Shipping Manager position, previous experience negotiating freight contracts, managing logistics suppliers and improving operational processes would be highly advantageous.
  • Experience within food imports, FMCG, consumer products or temperature‑controlled logistics would be beneficial but not essential.

Package

  • Salary of £30,000 – £35,000 for Shipping Clerk level.
  • Salary of £40,000 – £45,000 for Shipping Manager level.
  • 25 days holiday plus Bank Holidays.
  • Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:30pm.
  • Fully office based.
  • Modern offices in EC2, approximately 4 minutes from Liverpool Street Station, 10 minutes from Bank Station, 15 minutes from London Bridge.
