Job Overview
We are seeking a proactive and motivated Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Heart Failure and Pacing, passionate about providing high‑quality, patient‑centred cardiology services across our acute hospitals – Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital. You will be a valued member of an inclusive and supportive multidisciplinary team delivering inpatient and outpatient Heart Failure services and will lead the development of the new Heart Failure Hub at Peterborough City Hospital. As a member of a specialist team of 12 Cardiology consultants, specialist nurses and an experienced Cardiac Physiology team, you will also develop the complex pacing service for the North of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated System, providing specialist device implantation knowledge from brady pacing to complex pacing.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care and expand Heart Failure services.
- Contribute to general cardiology services including outpatients’ clinics and inpatient ward work as consultant of the week, and review outlying patients with cardiac conditions.
- Lead pacemaker implantation and share responsibility for day‑to‑day management of the service and participation in strategic planning.
- Actively participate in MDT meetings, directorate clinical governance activity, and teaching, training, and continuing medical education.
Job Plan & Working Schedule
The job plan is anticipated to contain 10 programmed activities, 8.5 PA’s of direct clinical care and 1.5 SPA’s per week. You will work across Peterborough City Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital in Huntingdon, with travel between sites reimbursed. You will join the consultant rota on a 1:7 weekend ward‑rounds model. Currently, there are no on‑call commitments, but the cardiology team is working toward 24/7 cover.
Professional Development and Training
You will be mentored by the Clinical Lead and allocated a Trust mentor. A commitment to continuing medical education and research participation is required, including teaching medical students, doctors in training and other allied health professionals.

Compliance & Checks
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975. A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required. MRCP or qualification at an equivalent level is required, along with entry on the GMC Specialist Register or being within six months of receipt of CCT at the time of interview. Broad experience in cardiology and BHRS or equivalent accreditation in device implantation are also required.
