Overview
This is a full‑time Obstetrician appointment with a specialist interest in high‑risk pregnancy at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

Responsibilities
- Provide consultant‑led obstetric care, including labour ward coverage, ante‑natal clinics, elective and emergency theatres.
- Attend theatre cases to perform surgery unless a trainee is competent to perform the operation with indirect supervision.
- Support obstetric colleagues with advice and surgical assistance, e.g. major obstetric haemorrhage.
- Provide risk analysis and management plans for cases requiring specialist input.
- Engage in clinical governance, risk management and compliance with CNST requirements within the directorate and the trust.
- Lead the care of high‑risk pregnant women, including those who have experienced baby loss, multiple birth or pre‑term birth prevention, birth choices and bereavement follow‑up clinics.
- Develop and standardise obstetric pathways in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Train resident doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
- Take senior leadership roles in the general provision of obstetric services at Basildon Hospital and MSE.
- Participate in the departmental on‑call rota (1 in 14).

Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent.
- Completed MRCOG or equivalent.
- CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
- ATSM in High Risk Obstetric Medicine (or equivalent).
- ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice or equivalent.
- ATSM in Maternal Medicine / Fetal Medicine.
- MSc, MD, PhD, MA or Masters in Education or related discipline.
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist qualification.
