The Team
Our Information Intelligence practice is a specialist technical consultancy delivering bespoke solutions to complex operational problems across the public sector. Off the back of strong growth, we’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join us.
Where you’ll be working
Work from any of our UK offices, including Bristol, Cheltenham and London or remotely, whichever suits you best. Expect occasional travel to meet clients.
About the Role
Joining our Data Engineering community, you’ll deliver cutting‑edge solutions for public sector clients spanning Central Government, Defence, National Security and Critical National Infrastructure. You’ll work closely with clients to design and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines that ensure data is available, accurate and performant for analytics and operational decision‑making. You’ll also help shape the wider data engineering roadmap, driving research, defining technical strategy, aligning with business priorities and influencing key decisions.
The role centres on high‑priority project delivery, supporting clients across the full project lifecycle from initiation through to conclusion. You’ll work with a broad set of technical tools while helping maintain compliance with data governance, standards and quality frameworks.
What you’ll be doing
- Interpreting and validating data requirements, analysing large‑scale structured datasets, and profiling data to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Designing and building ETL frameworks to ingest, transform, validate, normalise and cleanse data
- Applying data quality controls and preparing datasets for visualisation, including managing storage solutions such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, BigQuery or Snowflake
- Supporting the development of data management standards and policies, including data synthesis and anonymisation techniques for compliance and security
- Building robust data models to support analytics and reporting within secure environments
- Monitoring and tuning data workflows to optimise for speed, cost efficiency and reliability
- Establishing best practices in data engineering, and contributing to analytics and visualisation strategy through research and evaluation of emerging technologies
What we’re looking for
You’ll bring experience applying industry best practice around data management, security and scalability, with an understanding of Data Standards, Interoperability, Data Governance and Data Sharing across security domains. We’re after someone genuinely passionate about technology, who enjoys solving problems and works well collaboratively.
You’ll also ideally have:
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer in complex environments
- Strong grounding in data modelling, integration and governance
- The ability to assess existing data systems and recommend improvements
- Experience working with Snowflake
- Familiarity with modern data architectures, cloud‑based and distributed systems
- Proficiency in SQL, Python and pipeline tools such as Apache Airflow or Spark
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies
- Exposure to data analytics and visualisation
Given the industries we work in, you’ll need to be able to obtain high‑level security clearance – meaning you must be a British citizen who has lived in the UK continuously for the past five years.
Why join us
Expect the culture of a close‑knit team, backed by the resources of a much larger organisation, plus a competitive salary and strong benefits, including:
- Flexi‑time: 37.5‑hour weeks, structured your way
- Hybrid working: office or home — your choice
- L&D: budget for conferences, training and other materials
- Social: a genuine culture with regular team events
- Long‑term security: matched pension and healthcare package
Career growth is very much in your hands here; you’ll be encouraged to take ownership of your development and proactively pursue the goals that matter to you, backed by a dynamic, inclusive, team‑led environment.
