Job Description:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon to join the Directorate of Trauma and Orthopaedics. The post is full‑time, substantive and based at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct elective and fracture outpatient clinics.
  • Participate in elective and trauma operating sessions.
  • Provide ward round duties and related administrative responsibilities.
  • Commit to a 1:8 on‑call rota, covering trauma on‑call for one week shared with a colleague on alternating days.
  • Support the delivery and ongoing development of orthopaedic services across Lancashire, including teaching, training and supervision of resident doctors and undergraduate medical students.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date specialist knowledge through attendance at conferences, study days and training courses.
  • Engage in clinical governance, quality improvement projects and contribute to service development.

Key Qualifications and Experience

  • Full GMC registration and licence to practise.
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register or qualification of FRCS (TR+ORTH) (or equivalent) within six months.
  • Fellowship training in orthopaedics with a recognised subspecialty interest in foot and ankle surgery, preferably with experience in diabetic foot management.
  • Proven experience in general trauma surgery (adult and paediatric).
  • Evidence of teaching and clinical leadership at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Ability to lead a multi‑disciplinary team and integrate within the orthopaedic unit.
  • Strong communication skills and a track record of teamwork.
  • Willingness to reside within 30 minutes drive of the trauma centre and access to private transport.
