Database Reliability Engineer

Salary: £85,000 – 85,000 per year

Requirements:

• 5+ years of hands‑on experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL in a large‑scale environment
• DBA background in PostgreSQL and MongoDB
• Site reliability experience
• Experience building Helm charts using Kubernetes
• Experience with cloud‑based database services
• Experience with data platforms in AI
• Expertise with Kubernetes and Docker for containerised applications
• Advanced skills in infrastructure coding and automation using Python, Ansible, Terraform, and GitHub Actions
• Experience with performance tuning, optimisation, and database scalability
• Strong understanding of database observability, security, backups, and disaster recovery strategies
• Excellent leadership, problem‑solving, and analytical skills
• Ability to work collaboratively and influence cross‑functional teams
• Preferred: familiarity with analytics database technologies such as ClickHouse and StarRocks
• Preferred: familiarity with CI/CD tools such as ArgoCD and Jenkins for database operations
• Preferred: strong understanding of distributed database architecture

Responsibilities:

• Ensure production and lower environments are deployed, configured, maintained, and monitored for reliability and resilience
• Ensure environments are fully performant in support of the applications
• Implement best practices for database performance, security, backup, disaster recovery, and secure data removal and transfer
• Maintain vendor relationships in support of the environments
• Provide technical leadership and act as an escalation point for junior engineers
• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines specific to database operations, with an emphasis on automation and scalability
• Collaborate with private cloud, DevOps, and development teams across deployment and maintenance activities
• Mentor junior engineers and act as a technical advisor to cross‑functional teams
