Overview
Full‑time, permanent Probation Services Officer (PSO) role at Carpenter House Approved Premises. The PSO works with medium‑ and low‑risk offenders on probation before and after sentence, providing assessment, sentence implementation, offender management and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Assess and manage risks associated with offenders.
- Provide information to courts and coordinate with agencies across the justice system.
- Support offenders with practical advice on housing, employment, and other needs.
- Prepare clear and accurate reports to tight deadlines.
- Implement and monitor sentence terms, enforce curfews and other monitoring requirements.
- Engage in regular case‑management activities and intervention planning.
Qualifications & Competencies
- No degree required; strong emphasis on personal qualities.
- Experience working with people having social or personal difficulties.
- Empathy, patience and resilience.
- Excellent written communication and report‑writing skills.
- Ability to manage a caseload of offenders within statutory time frames.
Compensation
Starting salary £28,064, with annual pay progression through the Civil Service Competency‑Based Pay Framework (CBF). Salary increases will be aligned with pay band ranges and Civil Service Pay guidance.
Right to Work & Immigration
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and meet the Civil Service nationality rules. The role is not eligible for a new Skilled Worker visa from 22 July 2025. If you held a skilled worker visa before that date, you may be considered for sponsorship. All offers will require regularised immigration status.
Working Arrangements
- Standard working hours 37 hours per week (excluding unpaid breaks), Monday‑Friday with weekend support as required.
- Hybrid flexible working where business need allows, otherwise in‑office on site.
- Not eligible for overseas working.
- Visor vetting will be required post‑offer; the role is advertised without initial Vetting.
