An exciting opportunity for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join our Hillingdon Mental Health Inpatient Service. The role covers the treatment wards (2×18-bedded male and female wards) and the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (8-bedded male PICU).

We are looking for people passionate about OT who want to focus on clinical OT skills and develop the OT provision within inpatient services. A key aspect includes crossover working with the Health Based Place of Safety (HBPOS) and The Lighthouse, providing timely OT input, risk management, discharge planning and multidisciplinary interventions, ensuring continuity of care and promoting recovery-focused outcomes.

Main duties of the job

Occupational therapists hold a key role within the MDT, involving individual and group work, consultation, assessment, intervention and evaluation in accordance with the RCoT Professional standards and ethics. The role includes cross-service work with HBPOS and The Lighthouse and using MoHO, sensory and other evidence-based assessment tools to establish functional baseline and plan ongoing care.

Key responsibilities

  • Contribute to assessment and intervention planning across inpatient wards, HBPOS, and The Lighthouse
  • Support service users transitioning between acute, crisis and community pathways
  • Supervise junior staff and students, acting as a Practice Educator
  • Access and deliver internal and external training opportunities
  • Develop leadership skills toward progression to Band 7 roles within CNWL

Qualifications and experience

  • Degree (or Diploma) in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with HCPC as an Occupational Therapist or eligible for registration
  • Significant post-qualification experience in adult mental health OT
  • Experience working with clients presenting with a wide range of complex, severe & enduring mental health conditions
  • Proficiency in standardised OT assessments
  • Experience working autonomously and within an MDT
  • Experience drafting group protocols, facilitating groups and partnership working for inclusive opportunities
  • Experience in risk assessment, risk management, audit/research projects, training facilitation and supervision of qualified OT staff
