Scrub Team Leader

About the role
Lead the theatre scrub team to deliver safe, efficient and high quality care across the operating theatre. The role involves prioritising daily activities, developing and allocating work plans, recruiting and retaining staff, providing clinical leadership, monitoring standards of care, and contributing to ongoing audit and monitoring.
Job responsibilities
- Prioritise daily activities to respond to changing circumstances and provide a seamless service.
- Develop work plans, allocate tasks and ensure they are realistic and achievable.
- Contribute to recruitment and retention of staff using agreed methods and protocols.
- Objectively assess the work of multidisciplinary team members and provide constructive feedback.
- Participate in the audit cycle to identify and address issues during the peri‑operative phase.
- Directly support patient needs, providing expert knowledge of clinical specialties and acting as a role model.
- Monitor standards of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.
- Maintain audit and documentation in accordance with Trust policy and NMC/HCPC guidelines.
Person Specification
Statutory Registration
- Registered with the NMC or HCPC.
Experience
- Existing experience as a scrub practitioner.
- Experience leading a team.
Special Skills & Knowledge
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Specific skills relevant to area of practice.
- Recruitment and selection skills.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner.
- Experience as a Registered Nurse or ODP within the Operating Theatre.
- Teaching and assessing qualification or willingness to work towards it.
- Diploma or degree or willingness to work towards it, or relevant practical experience within the department specialities.
