Job Description:

The Newcastle & Gateshead Homeless Mental Health Team have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Support Worker. This is a rare opportunity to work within one of CNTW’s most unique services.

Due to the nature of this role and the risks associated with our client group, this post has a Genuine Occupational Requirement to be filled by a male, in accordance with Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Supporting clients who have various mental health issues including psychosis, depression, anxiety, complex emotional needs, alongside homelessness.
  • Supporting members of the team to deliver evidence‑based treatment and to engage in collaborative working across the multi‑agency team.
  • Assisting in the delivery of care to service users who have diverse needs, presentations and a range of mental health conditions, cognitive and/or learning disabilities under the direction of a registered practitioner.
  • The overall responsibility for the service user remains at all times with the registered practitioner.
  • Implementing and evaluating care within a prescribed framework, ensuring high‑quality, individualised care is delivered and promotes recovery, wellbeing and maximises independence.
  • Supporting the team in providing excellent and effective person‑centred care.
  • Providing compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.
  • Actively engaging in the supervision and appraisal process as identified in Trust policy.
  • Offering interventions to service users requiring mental health support.
  • Attending clinical appointments as a second person.

  • Willingness to work with clients who can be hard to engage and who are often socially excluded.
  • Confidence in offering assertive engagement aligned with a positive risk‑taking approach.
  • Passion to make a difference in this specialised area of mental health provision.
  • Keenness to develop collaborative networks with a range of service providers including Housing, Probation, Addictions, MAPPA, Local Authority and Safeguarding.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team that addresses complex needs in demanding environments.
