About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and professional person to join ERSOU as a Security and Data Assurance Officer. This role plays a critical part in protecting the organisation from security threats posed by hostile actors and organised crime networks. The successful candidate will strengthen organisational security and ensure robust data assurance practices across the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit.
Responsibilities
- Promote a strong information security culture
- Develop, implement, and maintain security policies and procedures
- Provide physical and personal security advice
- Conduct audits and manage penetration testing activity
- Investigate and maintain records of security incidents
- Coordinate access control and act as a point of contact
- Support data assurance and MOPI compliance
- Deliver security training and briefings
- Build effective partnerships across the seven forces
- Possess knowledge of covert law enforcement environments (desirable)
- Have an investigative background (desirable)
- Exhibit excellent communication skills
- Display strong attention to detail and the ability to produce high‑quality reports
Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant professional experience in security, data assurance, or related discipline
- Knowledge of information security standards and compliance frameworks
- Experience conducting audits, penetration testing, and incident response
- Strong communication, analytical and reporting skills

Vetting
Applicants must hold or be prepared to undertake Management Vetting (5‑year residency criteria) and Security Clearance (5‑year residency criteria) or Development Vetting, if applicable, before taking up the post. The Police Corporate Vetting Unit will also conduct financial and background checks as part of the selection process. Applicants are required to meet nationality and residency requirements for National Security Vetting. This is a reserved post under the Civil Service Nationality Rules and is open only to UK Nationals or those meeting the stipulated criteria.
