We are currently recruiting for a Decontamination Services Technician to support clinical activity and excellence in patient safety by providing a controlled Decontamination Service for reusable medical devices at the hospital.

As a DS Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting clinical activity by ensuring reusable medical devices are safely and effectively reprocessed. Working within a controlled decontamination service, you’ll contribute directly to patient care and safety.

You will be expected to contribute and to support the department’s best practice and continuous improvements.

As our DS Technician you will plan and prioritise your workload with consideration to the DS Team and the needs of our patients and work in accordance with the department’s Standard Operating and Procedures and Quality Management System.

  • Reprocess reusable surgical instruments and flexible endoscopes through all stages: receipt, cleaning, inspection, packing, sterilization, and dispatch.
  • Operate decontamination equipment and perform routine tests as per maintenance schedules.
  • Use electronic tracking systems to maintain full traceability.
  • Prioritise workload in collaboration with the DS team and internal customers.
  • Report breakdowns, non‑conformances, and assist with investigations.
  • Communicate professionally with hospital colleagues and contribute to continuous improvement.

Skills and experience required

  • Experience in decontamination of reusable medical devices – Desirable
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • NVQ Level 3/Technical Certificate Decontamination or equivalent level or knowledge and experience through decontamination training or a willingness to undertake
  • Working in a timely manner while achieving high levels of accuracy
  • Be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of the workplace
