Job Description:

Natural Environment Officer – Plymouth City Council

Plymouth City Council is seeking a dynamic Natural Environment Officer to help deliver pioneering work within the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. This is a unique opportunity to work with a diverse range of communities to help reconnect people to the sea so that they can experience the wonderful cultural and natural heritage of Plymouth Sound, discover and learn more about it and ultimately change behaviours to act to protect it.

This role will be based within Plymouth City Council’s new Natural Environment Service – consisting of several groundbreaking programmes and teams across the themes of Communities, Trees, Marine, Nature Recovery, and Environmental Operations. The new Natural Environment Service enhances Plymouth’s demonstrable leadership as a Nature City with a track record in innovation across Climate, Nature, People, and Place programmes – working collaboratively across themes to achieve maximum impact for the city and the wider region. This is a hugely exciting time to join us in delivering our ambitions, most recently published in our Plan for Nature and People.

This role will focus on the management of our rapidly expanding volunteer programme and you’ll work as part of a passionate team that are delivering the UK’s first National Marine Park and helping to set out a blueprint for parks of the future. You’ll be enthusiastic, self‑motivated, and able to communicate well within the team, with a range of different partners and the public. No two days will be the same and there will be a combination of outdoor and indoor work involved giving you a great opportunity to spend lots of time in the magnificent Plymouth Sound.

This full‑time role is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The Disclosure & Barring Service Check requirement for this post is: Enhanced DBS Children’s check.

We are a flexible employer and provide a variety of working arrangements tailored to the needs of each role.
