Senior Clinical Pharmacist – NRC/Teacher Practitioner

This post is integral to providing high quality, safe, compassionate and efficient care in an innovative way at the NRC and training the pharmacists of the future.
We are looking for a senior pharmacist to become a key part of shaping the pharmacy service in this area and paving the future of rehabilitation in the UK. The model is to deliver rehabilitation regionally, with the East Midlands being the first. Within this post you will spend three days a week at the NRC working with other members of the pharmacy team to optimise the use of medicines and improve patient safety, experience and operational flow. Two days a week you will be based at the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham, teaching undergraduate students as part of the MPharm course.
Planning for the NRC is in its advanced stages, and the building will be ready in 2026. The role will be temporarily based at Queens Medical Centre before moving to the NRC. For more details about the centre please visit the NRC website: www.nationalrehabilitationcentre.nhs.uk.
Main duties of the job
This is a split post – three days a week you will provide complex pharmaceutical care for patients at the NRC, optimising medicines and ensuring safe and effective transfer of care. You will have mentoring support from the specialist pharmacist and operational support from the medicines management technician and assistant at the NRC. Two days a week you will teach undergraduate students at the University of Nottingham School of Pharmacy. In this teaching role you will be expected to:
- Support the development of hospital pharmacy practice within the undergraduate curriculum.
- Support the Division of Pharmacy Practice and Policy in all aspects of clinical pharmacy teaching.
- Teach Pharmacy undergraduate students.
- Coordinate undergraduate teaching between hospital practice at NUH and academia at the Nottingham School of Pharmacy.
- Act as a professional role model.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered with the GPhC.
- Diploma/MSc in clinical pharmacy or an equivalent postgraduate qualification.
- Attendance at train‑the‑trainer courses or a recognised teaching qualification.
Skills & Experience
- Wide previous experience (post‑registration) of hospital pharmacy.
- Experience of delivering clinical pharmacy processes within a hospital setting.
- Experience of day‑to‑day supervision of trainee pharmacists or technicians.
- Experience of undertaking, reporting and presenting audit, research or project work at local (Trust) level.
- Experience of training and education of pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals.
Communication and Relationship Skills
- Able to prioritise own work and present information clearly in writing and verbally.
- Good communication and interaction with the multidisciplinary team and own profession.
- Teaching skills, including providing supportive feedback.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
- Critical evaluation skills to support drug therapy decisions and patient information.
- Able to assess and minimise risk in medicines management processes.
Planning and Organisation Skills
- Organised, able to prioritise work and support others.
- Positive thinker and problem solver.
