Nature of the Appointment: This post is a fixed-term College appointment for one year to cover a specific need during the time that our Tutorial Fellow in Engineering, Professor Xiaowen Dong, is on sabbatical. The appointment is considered to be a career development opportunity and, while a renewal may be available, it is College policy that stipendiary lectureships will not be renewed for more than 3 years.
Duties
The person appointed will be expected to teach undergraduates studying for the Engineering Science degree at Oxford for an average of at least four contact hours per week during Full Term. The lecturer should be able to offer high quality tutorials in Paper P1: Engineering Mathematics to first year students, and Paper A1: Engineering Mathematics to second year students. Termly reports on the Teaching Management System (TMS) will be required for each series of tutorials. The lecturer will set and mark collections (collegiate examinations) at the beginning of each term. Duties include involvement in the Admissions process, selecting and interviewing candidates for Engineering Science in December, and acting as College Advisor to graduate students in Engineering Science and related areas.
The lecturer will work under the direction of Professor Nick Hankins and the Senior Tutor, and will be a member of the College’s Education Committee. Participation in social events with undergraduates, such as Freshers’ Dinner and the Engineering Society dinner, is expected. Active engagement in the life of the College beyond tutorial teaching is encouraged.
