Our Internal Audit team plays a key role in helping the business operate safely, efficiently and with strong financial controls which begs the question…Who better to help identify risks, strengthen processes, and share best practice across the business than a curious and commercially minded auditor?
We’re looking for an Internal Auditor to join our Risk & Assurance team, supporting audit engagements across Stagecoach, and helping ensure our financial and operational processes are working effectively.
Working closely with the Director of Risk & Assurance, you’ll review complex processes across our operating companies, systems, and functions to ensure risks are properly managed. Where gaps exist, you’ll help identify the root cause and recommend practical improvements that balance strong assurance with real-world business needs.
This role offers the opportunity to gain exposure across the organisation, learn how different parts of the business operate, and contribute to improvements that support performance, compliance and risk management.
The role is based in our office in Stockport, with occasional travel across the UK.
What you’ll do:
- Support the delivery of internal audit engagements from planning through to completion.
- Identify control gaps or process weaknesses and recommend pragmatic improvements to reduce risk.
- Review financial and operational processes to ensure they are working effectively.
- Gather and analyse evidence to support well-documented audit conclusions.
- Apply risk and control concepts to assess the impact and priority of issues identified.
- Communicate findings clearly to stakeholders and support constructive conversations around improvements.
- Ensure all work aligns with professional standards and internal audit methodology.
- Contribute to the identification and sharing of best practice across the business.
What we need from you:
- You’ll have knowledge or experience in auditing, finance or risk management.
- Ideally, you’ll be working towards or recently completed a professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, ACMA or PIIA.
- Experience with SOX testing would be advantageous, but it isn’t essential.
- You’ll have strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to quickly understand complex financial and operational processes.
- You’ll be able to balance theoretical concepts with practical business application.
- Strong communication and listening skills are essential, along with the confidence to present findings and influence stakeholders at different levels.
- You’ll be organised, proactive and able to manage competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
- You’ll also be adaptable, curious and keen to continue developing your professional skills.
The role will require travel within the UK (approximately 20–30% of the time), including occasional visits to Perth, Scotland.
In terms of rewards and benefits, this role offers an annual salary of up to £40,000, a 10% bonus, a competitive pension, free bus travel for you and a family member, and access to a wide range of retail and entertainment discounts.
