Job Description:

Industrial Engineer

Location: Sheffield

Working pattern: 8:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday

What to Expect

We are seeking a proactive and skilled Industrial Engineer to join our Manufacturing Engineering team. This role is critical in ensuring that work is effectively balanced across all manufacturing processes on site. The successful candidate will apply industrial engineering principles to optimise workflows, improve productivity, and ensure efficient use of resources and labour.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead efforts to balance workloads across all manufacturing processes, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
  • Analyse current workflows and identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, or imbalances.
  • Develop and implement standardised work procedures, line‑balancing strategies and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with production, quality and planning teams to align engineering solutions with operational goals.
  • Use data‑driven techniques to forecast labour and equipment needs based on production schedules.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma and other industrial engineering methodologies.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to productivity, efficiency and throughput.
  • Train and mentor shop‑floor teams on new processes and improvements.
  • Manage site layouts and develop effective facility layout plans.
  • Plan, lead and facilitate cross‑functional workshops (including SMED, Value Stream Mapping, flow‑oriented production reviews and 5S) to drive improvements and alignment across functions.

What You’ll Bring

  • Workload Balancing & Line Balancing – ability to distribute tasks evenly across workstations to optimise flow and minimise idle time.
  • Time and Motion Studies – analyse tasks to determine optimal methods and timings.
  • Value Stream Mapping – visualise and improve end‑to‑end processes.
  • Lean Manufacturing – apply principles to eliminate waste and improve flow.
  • Six Sigma Tools – use DMAIC, root‑cause analysis and statistical methods to drive quality and efficiency.
  • Capacity Planning – assess and plan for labour, equipment and space requirements.
  • Simulation and Modelling – use tools such as discrete‑event simulation to test process changes.
  • ERP/MES Systems – familiarity with systems for tracking production and resource usage.
  • Data Analysis & Visualisation – use Excel, Power BI or similar tools to interpret and present data.
  • Strong layout/CAD capability (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks or equivalent) for site/layout planning and documentation.
  • Proven experience planning and facilitating cross‑functional workshops and improvement events (SMED, VSM, flow‑oriented production, 5S).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably composites or aerospace.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Experience with Lean and Six Sigma certifications is a plus.
