Position: Commercial Finance Business Partner

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Finance Business Partner to work directly with ambitious SME founders, helping them understand their numbers, make better decisions and grow their businesses.

In this role, you will manage a portfolio of SME clients, acting as their primary finance partner and supporting them with budgeting, forecasting and financial performance analysis.

As a key member of the team, you will lead client engagements, manage capacity across projects and ensure work is delivered to a consistently high standard.

Role Mission

As a Commercial Finance Business Partner, you will work closely with SME founders and leadership teams to provide commercial financial insight and strategic guidance.

Your role is to help businesses better understand their financial performance, make informed decisions and plan for sustainable growth, while also supporting the development of junior members of the team.

Key Responsibilities

Client Management & Communication

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, providing financial insight and guidance to support their business decisions.
  • Translate financial data into clear commercial insights that support decision-making.
  • Support clients with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial planning.
  • Provide insight into profitability, performance trends and the financial drivers of the business.
  • Lead quarterly client health checks, setting and tracking goals to ensure client satisfaction and success.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients building strong long-term relationships and proactively identifying opportunities to support client retention and satisfaction.
  • Ensure clear expectations are set for all client projects, including documented scope, timelines and costs, and proactively manage any changes.
  • Set clear deadlines for client work and ensure reporting is delivered on time and to a high standard.

Project & Client Growth Management

  • Identify and develop new project opportunities with clients, ensuring clarity on expectations and clear communication of project goals and costs.
  • Contribute to the growth of the client portfolio as per the agreed team and company targets.
  • Ensure clients have clear budgets and financial plans in place and take appropriate action when necessary to ensure alignment with their financial objectives.
  • Support clients with strategic financial planning, helping them identify opportunities to improve profitability and support business growth

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Finance Business Partner or in a similar role, managing client portfolios and leading teams.
  • Strong management accounting, financial analysis and commercial finance skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships with clients and team members.
  • Ability to manage capacity, prioritise effectively, and delegate tasks as necessary.
  • Strong project management skills, with a focus on clear documentation and timely delivery.
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to problem-solving, particularly in team management and client interactions.
  • Experience in developing and mentoring team members, supporting their professional growth.
