Job Description:

Are you an experienced payroll professional looking for full ownership of a client portfolio in a forward-thinking, technology-led accounting environment? Our client, a rapidly growing UK-focused accounting and payroll firm, is seeking a Payroll Manager to take responsibility for end-to-end payroll delivery across multiple high-growth clients.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work remotely, champion payroll accuracy and compliance, and contribute to the evolution of payroll technology within a modern, paperless practice.

What You’ll Do

  • Take full ownership of a defined payroll client portfolio, managing all aspects of payroll delivery and client communication.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for payroll, pensions, benefits, and related queries.
  • Process monthly payroll accurately and on time, including complex manual calculations, statutory payments, deductions, and reconciliations.
  • Manage workplace pensions, auto-enrolment, re-enrolment, and compliance with The Pensions Regulator.
  • Handle P11D compliance, including payrolling benefits and timely filing.
  • Liaise directly with HMRC to resolve discrepancies or queries.
  • Ensure payroll data integrates correctly into finance systems (Xero) and aligns with reporting.
  • Monitor payroll volumes and ensure client fees are commercially aligned with service delivery.
  • Champion payroll system improvements and support implementation of new technologies (BrightPay Cloud and other tools).
  • Collaborate with other Payroll Managers and accounting teams to develop consistent processes and service strategies.

Who We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years’ hands‑on UK payroll experience, ideally in an accounting practice or payroll bureau.
  • Qualified or working towards a recognised payroll/accounting qualification (CIPP Level 4+, Diploma, or equivalent).
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK payroll legislation, pensions, P11Ds, and benefits compliance.
  • Proficiency in BrightPay Cloud and confidence in a paperless, tech‑enabled environment.
  • Experience managing payroll independently for multiple clients.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, ownership of compliance, and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment over the long term.
