Job Description:

3T Additive Manufacturing is a Newbury-based metal additive manufacturing company, recently acquired by SBO, a large high precision manufacturing company, listed on the Vienna Stock Exchange. We are one of only five companies globally achieving series production in metal AM, serving aerospace, defence, semiconductor, and energy customers from a single vertically integrated facility. We hold AS9100D certification.

Key Responsibilities

To verify that all manufactured parts meet customer specifications and company quality standards through effective inspection, measurement, and documentation, ensuring consistent product quality and supporting continuous improvement.

  • Perform measurement and inspection of precision metal components using all relevant metrology tools and principles, including complex mechanical inspection.
  • Programme Mitutoyo CMMs (online/offline) using MCOSMOS, CAT1000PS and ScanPak, and lead, compile, and complete FAIRs in accordance with AS9102.
  • Maintain and control calibrated items and ensure all measurement instruments are kept in reliable working condition.
  • Identify and report non‑conformities, support root‑cause investigations, and contribute to corrective and preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with the metallurgy lab to manage external test and inspection reports (including NDT).
  • Support continuous improvement within the inspection function and assist with Goods In, dispatch, product release, and stores activities when required.
  • Work closely with commercial and manufacturing engineering teams to understand customer requirements and ensure all activities comply with the Quality Management System.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety requirements and undertake any other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proficient in programming Mitutoyo CMMs using MCOSMOS, including CAT1000PS offline programming from CAD models, ScanPak, and SM25 scanning modules.
  • Skilled in the use of standard metrology equipment (e.g., height gauges, micrometers, thread gauges).
  • Experienced in using profilometers for contour and surface roughness measurement; familiarity with Mitutoyo Form-tracer Avant and Formtracepak is advantageous.
  • Competent in generating, compiling, and completing FAIRs in accordance with AS9102.
  • Experience with 3D structured‑light scanning (e.g., Zeiss ATOS Q and Zeiss Inspect) is beneficial; however full training can be provided.
  • Knowledge of MSA, Gauge R&R, and SPC methodologies.
  • Materials testing experience (e.g., porosity, density, tensile, hardness) is beneficial but not essential.
  • Background in Manufacturing Engineering and knowledge of hard metal finishing or machining is preferred.
  • Experience working within a multi-disciplinary business environment (Operations, Production, Sales/CRM, Supplier Management/Development).
  • Strong engineering knowledge with a solid understanding of GD&T principles.
  • High level of computer literacy, with the ability to confidently use multiple software platforms including ERP systems, inspection software, reporting tools, and communication platforms such as Teams and email.
  • Good understanding of quality requirements, inspection processes, and controlled documentation.
  • Awareness of APQP and PPAP methodologies and their role in supporting a zero defect culture.
  • Understanding of different material types and their behaviour during inspection and testing.
  • Able to work effectively with cross functional teams including Operations, Engineering, Commercial, Procurement, Metallurgy Lab, and Suppliers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Good judgement in identifying issues that require escalation.
  • Numerate, analytical, and able to interpret technical information accurately.
  • Capable of working independently or as part of a team in a fast paced environment.

  • Demonstrates effective team orientation qualities and can integrate into a multifunctional team environment.
  • Confident using digital tools to manage workload, communicate effectively, and maintain accurate records.

  • Salary of £35,000 to £40,000 per annum, depending on experience.
