Job Overview
This is a whole-time post, and the new appointee will join an enthusiastic endoscopy department. The department passed their JAG visit in March 2023 and is therefore accredited for 5 years (maximum allowed). It is a screening centre for the national bowel cancer screening programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Devote the majority of elective work to the endoscopic management of patients with GI problems, including diagnostic endoscopy.
- Train within the area of therapeutic endoscopy; gain competence in diagnostic gastroscopy, and ideally flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy.
- Offer opportunity to train in advanced endoscopy (ERCP or EUS), therapeutic upper GI interventions (dilation and stenting) or lower GI EMR.
- Participate in 5 service commitment sessions of endoscopy with 2-3 training lists; some lists will be carried out at the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby.
- Take part in the GI bleed on‑call rota (1:5) to gain experience of acute GI bleeds.
- Attend administration/research sessions, participate in clinical audit and meet professional guidelines.
Training & Development
- Opportunity for advanced endoscopy training in ERCP, EUS or therapeutic endoscopy.
- Manage organisational aspects of endoscopy training days for Senior Clinical Fellows and Consultants from other Trusts.
- Encouraged to provide learning and training opportunities to undergraduates and Basic Medical Trainees.

- Departmental Educational meeting – 8:30 am Friday, Clinical Sciences Building.
- IBD MDT – 1-2 pm Friday, Ward 20 seminar room.
- Hepato-biliary MDT – 2 pm Thursday, Clinical Sciences Building.
