An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and innovative clinical pharmacist to lead rheumatology pharmacy services at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), one of the UK’s leading teaching and research hospitals.

This senior leadership role offers the chance to shape and deliver high-quality, safe and effective medicines optimisation for rheumatology patients across inpatient, outpatient, infusion and homecare settings. Working closely with a dynamic multidisciplinary rheumatology team, you will influence clinical practice, service development and medicines governance at both divisional and Trust-wide level.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for rheumatology clinical pharmacy services across UCLH, working in close partnership with consultants, clinical nurse specialists and the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Hold oversight of inpatient, outpatient, infusion and homecare services, ensuring safe, effective and cost‑efficient use of medicines across the full patient pathway.
  • Actively participate in outpatient clinics, MDT meetings, biologics clinics and infusion services, providing expert therapeutic input and acting as a prescriber where appropriate.
  • Act as the senior specialist in medicines optimisation within the specialty, shaping local and system‑wide pathways and interface prescribing guidance.
  • Lead medicines‑related governance for rheumatology, including oversight of incident management, policy development, risk mitigation and service evaluation, providing assurance at divisional and Trust level.
  • Lead strategic quality improvement programmes, high‑cost drug governance and financial oversight, contributing evaluated data to support value‑based decision‑making and sustainable service delivery.
  • Influence digital optimisation within Epic to enhance prescribing safety, workflow efficiency and data insight.
  • Contribute to research and clinical trial activity within rheumatology, working in partnership with academic and clinical colleagues to advance practice and improve patient outcomes.
  • Support the implementation and evaluation of local and national initiatives to further develop pharmacy services.
  • Support delivery of educational and developmental programmes, including UCL School of Pharmacy undergraduate placements, the JPB Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice, and the Band 7 clinical pharmacists rotational programme.
