Role Overview
The Multi-Department FLT Operator plays a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of both the yard and warehouse by supporting the day-to-day activities, engaging with customers, delivering exceptional customer service, safe handling, movement & storage of building materials and, complying with company policies and procedures.
We are looking for an experienced operative with a preferred background in a builder’s merchant environment. The successful candidate will be confident operating an FLT, loading / unloading customer and supplier vehicles, and possess a strong general knowledge of building materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift truck (counterbalance and/or Combi Multi directional) safely and efficiently
- Load and unload deliveries from suppliers and customer vehicles
- Pick and prepare customer orders accurately
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard/warehouse environment
- Assist customers in the yard with product collection when required
- Conduct daily equipment checks and report any faults or issues
- Follow all health & safety procedures at all times
- Support stock control and inventory checks
Requirements
- Valid FLT licence (Counterbalance essential / Combi preferred)
- Previous experience working within a builder’s merchant environment (*Preferred)
- Good understanding of health & safety practices
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Physically fit and able to handle manual tasks
