About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse who is an experienced professional that is highly motivated, proactive and adaptable with a demonstrable interest in weight management and bariatric services. This is an exciting time to join the bariatric team as we are currently expanding our services to include this new role of clinical nurse specialist in weight management and bariatric services. The post holder will work autonomously and with the wider multi-disciplinary bariatric team to help deliver a specialist bariatric and weight management service for our patients. The successful candidate will be expected to use their expert clinical knowledge, alongside their leadership skills to provide high quality care to each and every one of our patients and to seek opportunities to engage with colleagues to embed and develop our bariatric and weight management service. This is a part time role at 24.5 hours per week.

Main Duties

To provide highly specialised and complex bariatric advice and support to our patients. To maintain and improve standards of care and to promote a seamless service within a multi-disciplinary team approach. This will be maintained through expert clinical practice, being involved in clinical audit and research, supporting the division and trust objectives and working within clinical governance frameworks. The successful candidate will be the first point of contact during hours for patients in the bariatric surgery pathway. They will work as an integral member of the weight management and bariatric multidisciplinary team contributing towards the provision of high quality bariatric care. The care we provide to our patients using the service will be both in an inpatient and an outpatient setting. The successful candidate will ensure that our patients receive smooth management of their care whilst liaising with and referring to the appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will act as a source of expertise in weight management within the bariatric service and provide an educational and advisory service to our patients and our staff whilst working with the bariatric multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will work in partnership with the bariatric multidisciplinary team, pre-operative staff and ward staff to ensure that our patients are provided with high quality care at every stage at their journey. The successful candidate will ensure the day to day running of the bariatric service is maintained to a high standard ensuring that a safe roster is completed and maintained.

Qualifications

Key Requirements:

  • Registered Nurse
  • First level (Honours) degree
  • Evidence of education at masters level or prepared to work towards
  • Post basic qualification in specialist area (if available)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Recognised teaching qualification

Experience

  • Relevant post registration experience at Band 6
  • Leadership and management experience
  • Experience of teaching/presenting
  • Specialist experience relevant to role
  • Multi professional working
  • Audit and research
  • Influencing change in practice

Knowledge and Awareness

  • Knowledge of role
  • Awareness of own limitations.
  • Knowledge of patient needs within the specialist area
  • Understanding of the Trust’s priorities that may influence role
  • Understand the national specialty and professional agenda
