Consultant Psychiatrist – Rose Ward
A vacancy at South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust. The Trust is seeking to appoint an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist for Rose Ward following the current post holder moving to an alternative post within the organisation. This is an established post at Springfield Hospital, in Tooting, London SW17.
This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic and dynamic consultant psychiatrist to join this friendly ward team.
Rose Ward was originally situated in Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton, but moved to Springfield in June 2023 as part of the Trust’s estates modernisation plan, consolidating adult acute inpatient wards across two hospital sites.
Both Springfield and Tolworth Hospitals are undergoing extensive new building and refurbishment works.
The post-holder will provide medical leadership to Rose Ward, working closely with the Ward Manager to ensure a safe, efficient, and effective service that meets the Trust’s Key Performance Indicators. The consultant shares responsibility for ensuring that the care delivered by the team is safe and of a good standard, participating in audit and clinical governance and resolving issues proactively.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff in line with the Trust’s personnel policies.
- Ensure that junior medical staff working with the post holder operate within the parameters of the New Deal and are Working Time Directive compliant.
- Undertake administrative duties and record‑keeping associated with the care of patients.
- Participate in service and business planning activity for the Ward and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
- Carry a mobile smart phone during working hours and be contactable by team members by phone and e‑mail.
- Work flexibly and creatively as part of a multidisciplinary team promoting informed risk‑taking and anti‑discriminatory practice.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with staff of all major disciplines concerned with the provision of mental health care.
- Participate in annual appraisal for consultants.
- Attend and participate in the academic programme of the Trust, including lectures and seminars as part of the internal CPD programme.
- Maintain professional registration with the General Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12(2)/AC approval, and abide by professional codes of conduct.
- Participate annually in a job plan review with the clinical manager (ACD) to ensure the post is developed in line with service configuration and delivery changes.
- Work with local managers and professional colleagues to ensure efficient running of services and share the medical contribution to management.
- Comply with the Trust’s agreed policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions, and take an active role in the financial management of the service.
