Cambridge University Hospitals is recruiting a UEC Programme Manager to lead the development, coordination and delivery of the Trust’s new Urgent & Emergency Care (UEC) Taskforce. This role has been created to provide the dedicated capability needed to accelerate improvements in CUH’s performance against the national 4 hour and 12 hour standards and to support safer, more effective patient flow across the organisation.
In this role, you will take responsibility for managing the full programme of UEC improvement work, ensuring actions are clearly defined, prioritised and delivered across all Divisions involved in urgent and emergency care pathways. You will work closely with operational leads, clinical teams and corporate functions to maintain robust governance, track progress and identify issues early, providing timely solutions or escalation routes as needed. You will also engage with system partners—including ambulance services, 111, community teams and the Integrated Care Board—to ensure CUH’s urgent care work aligns with wider system priorities and benefits from shared intelligence and coordinated action.
Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) is establishing a new Urgent & Emergency Care (UEC) Programme Manager role to lead the delivery, coordination and governance of the newly formed UEC Taskforce, created to accelerate improvement against national 4‑hour and 12‑hour access standards. The role will drive delivery across a portfolio of interventions and will lead on specific projects reaching across the organisation to shorten waiting times for patients. The post holder will provide senior programme leadership across Divisions, ensuring CUH’s UEC improvement plan is executed with pace, consistency and high‑quality governance, addressing patient safety, regulatory compliance, and operational effectiveness issues identified in the Investment Case. They will coordinate a complex, multi‑stakeholder portfolio of UEC actions and will develop system‑wide solutions, engaging with clinical, operational and corporate leaders to unlock barriers and deliver sustainable improvements.
This role is essential to CUH’s ambition to achieve NOF segmentation level 1–2 performance, supporting our broader organisational aim to progress towards Foundation Trust status.
