Do you want to play a key Project Management role in supporting the delivery of 6th Generation Combat Air as part of GCAP? As part of the expansion of the programme’s First International Contract in collaboration with Italy and Japan we have an exciting opportunity to join Leonardo Electronics GCAP programme. This is a hybrid role which can be based at any of our main national sites. You will have the opportunity to influence delivery of the fundamental work that will support and sustain GCAP’s delivery throughout its lifecycle. The role will require the ability to navigate a complex environment and facilitate nationally distributed & diverse cross‑functional teams helping to drive the programme forward.
Job Description
What you will do as Project Manager – GCAP Enablers:
- In conjunction with the project accountant, monitor and control project finances and the CSR.
- Assist in adherence to Lifecycle management.
- The role will focus on Governance and Control in a complex environment supporting both National and International project elements of GCAP for Leonardo. Working within the Enablers team to provide the fundamental capabilities required to deliver a system of systems into GCAP across Digital Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Data and Facilities & Infrastructure Physical/Digital.
- GCAP is moving from Concept and Analysis into Design and Development. The work is inherently complex requiring an individual who has knowledge of both linear and iterative Project Lifecycles. You must be happy with ambiguity, able to draw out implied tasks supporting specified deliverables. Motivated to work individually and collaboratively leading a team in solving problems.
- High level of communication skill, ability to engage stakeholders of all levels. Working as part of a Tri‑National Team across multiple companies engaging in a sensitive multicultural environment.
- Hybrid working in general mixing the ability to manage engagements as requirement dictates. There is a monthly need for UK travel as required for F2F meetings, planning events and some, limited, international travel.
- Expected maximum number of days on site is 2 per week dependent on requirement, this is flexible as our Team is nationally distributed.
- A Defence background would be an advantage. However, the ability to learn at pace, communicate clearly and integrate into a diverse team is vital for success. Understanding Linear and Interactive project lifecycles, how large organisations deliver change and the inherent difficulty of change within large organisations of benefit.
- A person that is self‑motivated and able to apply themselves in various situations whether as team member or leading a team is essential.
- Experienced delivering Project Progress Reviews on a portfolio of work indicating clearly key risks, issues and problems.
- Understanding of finance within Projects and how to clearly communicate the impact of scope creep and delay using financial metrics.
- You will work as part of a team across the UK/Italy/Japan.
What you’ll bring
- Ability to work with people, negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes and be comfortable making decisions.
- Demonstrated experience operating in a PM capacity in an aligned industry/project area.
- Strong fundamental PM skills, APM advantageous.
- Strong analytical, management & financial skills to support accurate project schedule and cost reporting.
- The ability to manage priorities, understand dependency’s, communicate issues clearly to Senior Leadership and to champion continuous improvement in the Teams Ways of Working.
- Commercial & Contractual experience of benefit.
