Responsibilities

An opportunity has arisen within the Engineering department for a Ceramic Core Product Engineer, reporting to the Core Technical Manager. As the business grows and the department expands, this position is key to driving technical improvements in our ceramic cores, bringing in new and more challenging product, on time and at the right cost.

Job role:

Technical responsibility for a portfolio of new and existing Ceramic Cores:

  • Support production of high quality Ceramic Cores
  • Ensure the product and process area is always evolving in a state of continuous improvement, to allow our product to meet the challenges of the customers advanced designs and market differentiation.
  • Reduce product related scrap and rework through root cause analysis
  • Implement and maintain best practices through all engineering activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Understanding of production planning and control
  • Understanding of CAE to include CNC machining, CAD and/or 3D modelling
  • Working knowledge of basic Manufacturing Systems
  • Understanding of Quality Tools and their practical application
  • Demonstrate good communication skills at different levels within Howmet’s, Customers and Supplier’s organisations
  • Deliver a ceramic core that meets the process and dimensional requirements of the castings, ensuring that the product is dimensionally in control and capable of meeting product volume without rework and scrap
  • Produce qualification reports and reports of scrap and rework analysis
  • Interaction with customers and internal technical staff to understand technical requirements and resolve issues
  • Programme management of individual parts
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing problems and root cause analysis
  • Cost reduction through process improvements

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • +4 years of applicable experience
  • Degree/HNC or equivalent in Engineering discipline
  • Injection moulding and/or ceramics processing experience
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and HBS
  • High level of computer literacy (Word/Excel/Project)
  • Ability to prepare and write reports.
  • Good judgment and decision making
  • Communication and Team working skills
  • Meticulous with good attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
