The successful candidate will be joining a team of experienced engineers.About the roleA great opportunity for an exceptional Fleet Support Engineer, to join the Porterbrook team.Role PurposeResponsible for the day-to-day management of fleet support and asset management activities, whilst ensuring safe and reliable operation of Porterbrook fleets Key ResponsibilitiesSafe Operation of Porterbrook Owned Rolling StockEnsure vehicles are suitable for safe operation on the railway system, with due consideration to Porterbrook’s lease obligationsReview National Incident Reports (NIRs) and Porterbrook Incident Reports (PIRs) to identify appropriate remedial actions and manage the implementation of remedial actions as necessary Ownership of maintenance/overhaul specifications to ensure that no undue risk is impacted to the running railway Ensure the Porterbrook change control process is robustly appliedOwnership of vehicle configuration, ensuring that Management of Changes (MOCs), Customer Acknowledgement Letters, Caveats and Work Orders are proactively managed to ensure vehicle configuration remains up to dateMaintenanceMonitor Operator responsible maintenance, ensuring mandated activities are carried out in time and to the correct standardSupport the delivery of maintenance contracts as required Monitor suppliers to ensure compliance with defined contractual requirements Monitor quality of engineering activities at suppliers’ and contractors’ sites, ensuring that the requirements of both Porterbrook and customers are metSupport the Porterbrook audit plan, advising and developing scope for audits as required, manage closure of Corrective Action Requests (CARs)Support and monitor condition of Porterbrook rolling stock assets, provide condition reports to the Operator and inform the Fleet Asset Manager of any issues identifiedProvide support to the Fleet Asset Manager in contract negotiations as requiredCustomer RelationsBuild strong and effective relationships with customersProvide support to customers as required on issues affecting the vehicles that they lease.
Ensure that these matters are appropriately prioritised by the team Support the re-leasing processDevelop and lead regular user group activities as required Enhanced Fleet Support ResponsibilitiesActively lead reliability investigations and fleet performance enhancement workstreams to improve the reliability and future leasing opportunitiesUndertake and support appropriate technical investigations into areas of poor reliability and develop appropriate remedial actionsActively utilise Remote Condition Monitoring when fitted to the fleet to support Reliability, Availability and MaintainabilityDevelopment of business cases and implementation plans supporting any proposed vehicle modifications and servicesSupport the delivery of unit modifications and enhancement projectsProactively engage with the Porterbrook innovations team and external suppliers to seek out new technology to enhance fleet performanceTo be the Porterbrook representative within the customer fleet operation liaising with representatives at all levels equallyOther DutiesDeputise for Fleet Asset Manager as directedSupport the Commercial Team in dealing with fleet maintenance, engineering and technical issuesAssist in providing general engineering services to the company as and when requiredSkills / ExperienceGeneral requirements are for an engineer with a rail background, who can deal with customers and contractors in a commercial environment, having in-depth knowledge of traction and rolling stock What you’ll need to haveRailway engineering knowledge, ideally possessing or working towards Chartered StatusDegree, HNC or equivalent in an Engineering disciplineEngineering apprenticeshipKnowledge of railway industry rolling stock, organisation and rail stakeholdersBasic knowledge of contractual obligations and operating lease agreementsKnowledge and understanding of safety cases, certification, railway risks and group standardsAbility to understand and comment upon engineering instructions and drawingsKnowledge and understanding of vehicle maintenance and overhaul requirementsIt would be great if you also hadHave a collaborative approach to workGood project planning skillsReport writing and presentation skillsFinancial and budgeting awarenessConflict resolution skillsGood organisational skillsGood negotiation skillsInterpersonal skillsComputer literacyWillingness to travel and spend time at various customer or supplier locationsGood understanding of maintenance optimisation techniquesGood understanding of and experience working with Remote Condition Monitoring to realise the benefitsA great place to workPeople are the heart of Porterbrook.
