Job Description – Senior Technical Author (Aerospace & Defence)
Engage in the delivery of high‑impact aerospace and defence programmes with ALTEN Ltd. As a Senior Technical Author you will produce clear, accurate technical publications and reports within a highly regulated, safety‑critical engineering environment, supporting a major UK aerospace OEM.
Location & Employment
- Location: Bristol and other UK customer sites
- On‑site requirement: Hybrid

- Security Clearance: Candidates must be willing and eligible to obtain SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Authoring and maintaining technical publications and formal reports.
- Producing documentation to support aerospace and defence programmes.
- Using Teamcenter Unified to manage, control and publish documentation.
- Working closely with engineering teams to gather, structure and validate technical information.
- Ensuring documentation meets internal standards, customer requirements and regulatory expectations.
- Supporting configuration control and document lifecycle management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Senior Technical Author.
- Background in aerospace or defence environments.
- Strong experience producing technical publications and reports.
- Hands‑on experience with Teamcenter Unified.
- Ability to understand complex engineering data and translate it into clear documentation.
Soft Skills & Collaboration
- Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers and stakeholders.
- Well‑organised and able to manage multiple documentation tasks.
- Proactive and quality‑focused approach.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or relevant technical/military background with equivalent experience.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working with large aerospace OEMs.
- Familiarity with configuration management or document control processes.
- Exposure to safety‑critical or regulated engineering environments.
