The Legal Aid Agency (LAA) is an executive agency of the Ministry of Justice responsible for administering the legal aid fund in England and Wales. The LAA employs around 1,200 colleagues across England and Wales.

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Data Governance and Quality Manager to establish and embed effective governance for legal aid data across the Legal Aid Agency (LAA). This role is pivotal in setting the standards and framework for effective data management, that will support the transformation of legal aid systems and services.

  • Establish effective data governance in Legal Aid that aligns to the MoJ Data Quality Framework.
  • Work with LAA teams to identify and support people who will hold critical data roles for effective governance.
  • Integrate data governance structures and roles with Legal Aid transformation governance and plans.
  • Work across LAA, MOJ Data and Legal Aid Digital to agree critical data sets and ensure data quality is central to service and system design.
  • Assess the impact of changes in policy, legal aid services and operational processes against data requirements and standards.
  • Support the LAA Chief Executive in their role as Legal Aid Data Patron, providing briefing and escalation into the MoJ Data Board.

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Proven experience working with data and systems, with the ability to understand and enforce quality standards.

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
  • Ability to lead change management initiatives and embed improvements.
  • Experience of governance systems to support effective decision making and quality/risk controls.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high‑quality outputs at pace.

Desirable Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks such as the MOJ framework.
  • Understanding of Legal Aid and/or operational delivery organisations.

  • You are confident challenging others (including senior managers) to ensure that plans are effective.

Salary & Benefits

National salary range: £42,914 – £46,182. London salary range: £49,325 – £53,081. Salary depends on base location.
