Location: This role is based in the Quadrant Milton Keynes with potential to be based in London Puddle Dock. This role is a full-time opportunity, flexible working patterns will be considered. For Quadrant:MK, you must live within 90 minutes.
Band & Salary: Band 3C 55,596 – 65,966
Brief Description
Who are we looking for? Were looking for an experienced engineering professional with a strong background in lift and escalator assets, ideally within a complex, safety‑critical environment. Youll be confident leading technical assurance, managing asset performance, and providing expert guidance to colleagues and contractors. The right person will combine robust engineering judgement with excellent communication skills, ensuring our lift and escalator portfolio remains safe, reliable, and fully compliant while supporting the needs of passengers and the wider railway.
About the role (External)
About the team.. Engineering Services is a function within Route Services. We sit as a central team to provide national skills and activities which enable regions and industry partners to deliver the railway for our customers.
As a large central functional team which focus on engineering delivery, we have many roles, ranging from pure engineering to project management. We design and influence every part of the railway, including structures, track, traction power, level crossings, signalling and accessibility schemes which are essential to keep our stations moving.
What does the average day look like? In this role, your days will be varied and hands‑on, using your specialist engineering expertise to make sure our lift and escalator assets are safe, reliable, and fully fit for purpose. Youll oversee the sourcing and delivery of maintenance and improvement work, develop technical specifications, and lead contract discussions that support our evolving business needs. Alongside this, youll guide and develop your team, ensuring strong engagement and high professional standards. Much of your time will be spent working collaboratively with suppliers, customers, and colleagues across the business, reviewing performance trends, planning improvements, and resolving engineering issues before they impact service. Youll also provide technical leadership during investigations and audits, helping to drive continuous improvement across our asset portfolio.
Essential Criteria
- Educated to HNC/HND or similar
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of the Lift & Escalator Regulations and standards
- At least 5 years experience in a Lift & Escalator engineering area
- Broad technical engineering experience
- An understanding of safety and quality management systems and risk assessment techniques

Desirable Criteria
- Management or supervisory experience
- NeBosh Diploma
- Professional membership of a relevant engineering institution
- Proven ability in managing commercial, contractual, and financial issues
- Lead Investigator
- Knowledge of the railway industry and an understanding of railway infrastructure
