As a Mechanical Technician with significant relevant practical and management experience? Join our Estates Engineering Team and play a pivotal role keeping our Trust's critical services running 24/7. You'll be managing Planned Preventative Maintenance, emergency breakdowns and installations across multiple sites covering the on call service on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will be able to effectively advise, instruct and train colleagues, and other groups, in the safe operation of equipment and systems.

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will be able to liaise with Senior Trust staff to discuss complex Estates work related issues where there may be barriers to understanding and provide concise and detailed responses both verbally and in writing.

They will be able to communicate complex technical and safety advice effectively with a wide range of groups including department colleagues, other Trust staff groups, contractors, patients and the general public, particularly in a potential emergency situation. This may be delivered as formal training, or informally as part of the Maintenance Manager's daily routine, but will always ensure compliance with all recognized safety standards and procedures.

Liaise with the Estates Operations Manager to assist with managing the Estates Operations revenue budget for pay and non-pay ensuring that the Trust obtains good value for money and applying best practice budget management techniques in full compliance with Trust SFIs.

Keep knowledge and skills up-to-date and attend regular Authorised Person refresher courses to ensure authorisation remains current. Attend and complete all Trust mandatory training.

Job responsibilities

  • Operate on a day shift and on call rota you will be actively responding to breakdowns and job requests.
  • Manage the team to provide Planned Preventative Maintenance and fault-finding on generators, fire alarms, lighting and power, distribution boards, boilers, air-handling units, chiller plant, medical gas systems, calorifiers and hot & cold-water networks.
  • Assess, diagnose and provide solutions to complex faults on Healthcare Building Services.
  • Evaluate and respond effectively to emergency situations, prioritising safety for patients, staff and the public.
  • Conduct and document your own risk assessments for medium and high-risk tasks.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Trust policies, statutory standards and health & safety legislation.
  • Liaise with the Senior Management team in response to emergency situations including Estates participation in the Trust's Major Incident and Business Continuity Plan.

Person Specification

Knowledge of Mechanical and Electrical plant & equipment

  • Experience / Qualifications.
  • Ability to Prioritise.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload in order to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

  • An approved apprenticeship in mechanical engineering. ONC Mech + relevant practical experience or HNC Mech + practical relevant experience.
  • Experience and a can do attitude.
