Accounting Technician – Derry/Londonderry – £28,000 – £32,000

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Technician to join up with a well respected local organisation in Derry/Londonderry

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with numbers, thrives on accuracy, and wants to develop their career in accounting within a supportive environment.

Duties

The role of Accounting Technician, you will report to the Financial Controller and your main duties will include:

  • Support the month-end close by working closely with the Accountant and wider Finance team to ensure the smooth running of daily finance operations.

  • Assist in the timely and accurate preparation of monthly management accounts, including profit and loss statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and journal postings.

  • Play a key role in year-end close activities, helping to prepare audit-ready documentation such as supporting schedules, analysis, and evidence.

  • Act as a point of contact for internal and external auditors, providing information and assistance throughout the audit process.

  • Carry out financial reviews and produce ad hoc reports and analysis to support business decision-making.

  • Assist in the preparation of regular trading forecasts and financial projections.

  • Support the annual budgeting cycle, including budget preparation, monitoring performance against budgets, and providing variance and cost analysis.

  • Provide ongoing day-to-day finance support across the department.

  • Assist with weekly and monthly payroll processing as required.

  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and improvement of finance policies and procedures.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including system and process enhancements and participation in finance-related projects.

  • Undertake general finance and administrative duties as required.

Desired Experience

  • Fully qualified Accounts Technician (IATI or equivalent recognised qualification).

  • A minimum of two years relevant experience gained in either an accountancy practice or an industry/commercial environment.

  • Strong technical knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping with proven experience preparing accounts.

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced working knowledge of Excel.

  • Previous experience supporting or processing payroll functions.
