Job summary

The Head of Site Finance is a senior finance leader responsible for delivering high‑quality financial management, business partnering, and financial control across the site.

The postholder will lead the site‑based Finance Business Partnering function, provide strategic and operational financial leadership to clinical and corporate services, support the Site Director of Finance in ensuring financial sustainability, performance, and value delivery, and act as a key interface between Group Finance and the site, ensuring alignment to group standards, policies, and objectives.

The role is pivotal in embedding a high‑performing, insight‑driven finance function that supports operational decision‑making, productivity, and transformation. It is responsible for financial delivery, accountability and relationships at site.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide leadership to the site finance team, including Finance Business Partners and analysts
  • Build a high‑performing, engaged, and professionally developed team
  • Set clear objectives aligned to Group Finance strategy and site priorities
  • Lead workforce planning, capability development, and succession planning
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration

Person Specification

Essential

  • CCAB Qualified accountant
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Significant senior leadership experience in public sector organisation
  • Experience of financial modelling and scenario planning
  • Knowledge of NHS financial planning frameworks and regulatory requirements
  • Understanding of financial governance and assurance requirements
  • Understanding of productivity and efficiency programmes within healthcare
  • Proven experience of business partnering with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into clear strategic insight
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experience managing and developing finance staff
  • Strategic thinking and ability to see the bigger organisational picture

Desirable

  • Experience writing Board or Exec level reports
  • Experience working in a multi‑organisation or group finance model
  • Experience supporting organisational transformation or service redesign
