Assistant Payroll Manager

Reed Accountancy are delighted to be partnered with a respected organisation based in Belfast area in the appointment of an experienced Assistant Payroll Manager join their dynamic team on a full-time, permanent basis.

The successful Assistant Payroll Manager will assist in managing a busy Payroll Department, ensuring accurate payroll processing and providing leadership in the absence of the Payroll Manager.

Day-to-Day of the Role:

  • Assist the Payroll Manager in overseeing payroll procedures and maintaining payroll records.
  • Act as a point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and provide leadership to payroll staff when the Payroll Manager is absent.
  • Address employee payroll queries and resolve discrepancies or payment issues promptly.
  • Assist in managing end-to-end payroll processing, including reviewing timesheets, overtime, bonuses, and deductions.
  • Ensure accurate calculation of salaries, taxes, pensions, and benefits.
  • Verify payroll reports before final approval and reconcile payroll nominal accounts.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities and support the preparation of tax filings and statutory returns.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records in accordance with retention policies and help manage HR/payroll software.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A recognised qualification in UK payroll, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals with a minimum of two years within a payroll function, or a minimum of five years in a senior payroll position.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and employment law as it relates to payroll.
  • Advanced proficiency in payroll systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple payroll cycles and deadlines.
  • Highest levels of integrity and confidentiality.
