Our Perinatal Team supports women with severe or complex mental health conditions who are planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant, or have a child under two. We deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based specialist assessment, intervention, and advice, ensuring safe and effective care for women, their babies, and their families.
Formed in 2017 as part of the national Perinatal Long Term Plan, the team continues to grow and enhance its offer. Ongoing developments include a 24‑month care pathway, increased access to psychological therapies, and the delivery of partner assessments.
Working in the Perinatal Team offers a unique opportunity to:
- Support women experiencing moderate to severe antenatal and postnatal mental health difficulties
- Work closely with their families and infants, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions
- Engage in multidisciplinary and multiagency working

Location
If successful, you will be based in our North Hub, working across Peterborough, Huntingdon, and Wisbech as part of an experienced and supportive multidisciplinary team. This role involves travel; applicant must have access to a car.
Main duties of the job
As a care coordinator, you will work with mothers, their infants and families who are at risk of or experiencing severe and complex perinatal mental health conditions.
You will develop care plans, liaise with family members, carers and significant others, and coordinate with nursery nurses, occupational therapists, and psychologists to provide comprehensive care.
You will provide psycho‑education to women, help them develop coping strategies and relapse prevention plans, and link them with wider third sector agencies.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Be part of the development of the Countywide Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service.
- Work directly with women, their infants and families at risk of or experiencing severe and complex perinatal mental health conditions, including assessment and intervention linked to the mother/infant relationship.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of Perinatal Mental Health Training and Education to other staffing groups.
- Participate in safeguarding adult enquiries and complete safeguarding lead training.
- Mentor and co‑mentor students.
- Provide medication advice and information within your competency.
- Provide supervision to junior staff.
- Work jointly with staff from other services.
- Provide specialist advice and consultation to other staff regarding the management of women experiencing severe and complex mental health conditions during the perinatal phase, including guidance on management and signposting where conditions do not require specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service input.
- Attend professional meetings and other meetings to offer advice where appropriate.
- Travel independently around the county and meet strict time deadlines. A full UK driving licence and a vehicle are required; public transport is not acceptable.

Education / Qualifications
- HCPC or NMC Professional Registration.
- Post‑qualification specialist mental health training.
- Post‑registration training relevant to the service area.
Physical Requirements
- Routine and regular use of computer.
- Ability to travel independently around the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area meeting required timescales; a full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
Experience
- Experience of inter‑agency working.
- Experience of developing user and carer involvement.
- Experience of working with patients who have mental health difficulties/diagnosis.
- Experience in managing complex cases.
- Experience working in a Perinatal setting.
- Experience working as a care co‑ordinator in a mental health setting.
- Experience of managing and training staff.
Skills & Abilities
- Able to assess people with complex mental health problems and collaboratively develop care plans and risk management plans.
- Able to maintain comprehensive patient records concisely and accurately.
- Manage a caseload independently.
- Able to manage conflict and change.
- Able to manage pressure of working in an intensive environment.
- Develop and lead new initiatives within the clinical care environment.
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983/2007).
- Knowledge of relevant professional standards.
- Working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005).
- Working knowledge and understanding of safeguarding vulnerable children and adults.
- Knowledge of the importance of the parent‑infant relationship.
