Communications & Engagement Co‑Head (Climate)

Location: Islington, London – hybrid working

Salary: £63,756 – £67,644 per annum + benefits (starting salary at start of range)

Closing date: Monday 18th, May 2026

Interviews: w/c Monday 1st, June 2026

Greenpeace UK is an independent national/regional organisation within the global Greenpeace campaigning network that acts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and promote peace.

We’re recruiting a Communications & Engagement Co‑Head for our climate mission. You will lead the development and delivery of an integrated mission strategy — shaping a clear, compelling narrative and a powerful supporter experience across all communications and engagement activity.

Partnering with the Co‑Head (Campaigns), you’ll guide and challenge a multidisciplinary team of campaigners, mobilisers and communicators to deliver high‑impact work. The role spans rapid response on urgent and politically charged issues — from the Iran conflict and rising oil prices to local elections and the growing far right — while also steering longer‑term strategies on oil and gas accountability and building climate salience with the public.

You Will Achieve This By

  • Leading the development and delivery of an integrated mission‑level communications and engagement strategy, fully aligning with campaign strategy and organisational objectives.
  • Overseeing insight‑driven communication and engagement plans across all channels; ensuring strategies are iterative, evidence‑based, and responsive to fast‑moving political, media and digital contexts.
  • Designing and guiding the mission’s approach to recruiting, engaging and deepening supporter involvement — from first contact to long‑term participation — ensuring a coherent, high‑quality supporter experience.
  • Leading planning, development and sign‑off of communications and engagement outputs; ensuring consistent messaging, high standards, and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Managing communications and engagement specialists; setting clear expectations, fostering innovation and smart risk‑taking, and modelling inclusive, anti‑oppressive leadership.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to thoughtful and inclusive practice in both how we communicate with our audiences and how we work together internally.

About You

You’ll thrive in this role if you bring a strong track record in senior‑level strategic communications and engagement, ideally within campaigning or advocacy. You’re someone who can work at pace, adapt quickly as the news agenda shifts, and still hold a coherent narrative across multiple issues and channels. You know how to lead, guide and get the best out of multidisciplinary comms teams — from press to digital to creative — and you bring a genuinely collaborative, co‑leadership mindset, essential for working in partnership with the Campaigns Co‑Head. Experience working alongside digital and fundraising colleagues on supporter reach, recruitment and retention would be a real advantage.

Essential Criteria For Success

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in developing and implementing multi‑channel, insight‑driven communication and engagement strategies for complex issues, preferably within a campaigning or advocacy context.
  • Proven ability to set strategic communications objectives, measure outcomes, and iterate strategies based on evaluation and evolving external landscapes.
  • Experience developing approaches that recruit, engage and deepen the commitment of supporters or audiences over time, building strong, long‑term relationships that drive sustained action and impact.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence, guide, and collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, campaigners, and specialist teams.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, getting the best out of team skills and perspectives.
  • A commitment to thoughtful and inclusive practice in both how we communicate with audiences and how we work together internally.

We Give You

You’ll be encouraged to develop both personally and professionally, taking advantage of the wide range of learning and development opportunities available to our staff. We offer great benefits such as a generous pension scheme, subsidised lunches, free yoga and a wealth of well‑being resources.

Our Commitment To Diversity

We acknowledge that people from certain backgrounds are under‑represented in environmental and campaigning organisations and we’re committed to doing what we can to correct this. One of our Anti‑Racism Plan objectives is to proactively achieve stronger representation of people of colour, particularly within leadership positions, and we have recently published ambitious race representation targets. We are piloting a Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS) as a new approach to make our recruitment more equitable. If you identify as a person of colour, you can choose to opt in to the Guaranteed Interview Scheme. We will aim to offer everyone who opts in and meets the essential criteria a first‑stage interview. Exceptional application volumes may affect capacity; we will communicate clearly and keep candidates informed.
