Working 36.5 hours per week

We’re recruiting an Application Support Engineer to work on income management and financial systems, with a primary focus on Civica Income Management (formerly CivicaPay).

What This Role Involves (In Practice)

Investigating issues where figures don’t reconcile or processes don’t behave as expected. Working through data, logs, and system behaviour to identify root causes. Supporting integrations between systems, including diagnosing failures in interfaces, data transfers, and batch processes. Supporting key financial activities such as billing runs, rent changes, and year‑end processes. Managing system access and configuration where it directly affects financial outcomes. Working with suppliers where required, but owning the problem internally.

What We’re Looking For

This role suits someone who understands financial systems, not just IT systems. We’re particularly interested in candidates who have experience with Civica Income Management (formerly CivicaPay), ideally within local government, or have worked in financial systems support, including banking or similar environments. You should be comfortable working with data, accuracy, and reconciliation, not just tickets, and able to take ownership of complex issues through to resolution. Experience supporting system integrations, interfaces, or data flows would be beneficial, particularly where multiple systems contribute to financial processing.

What Matters Most

Attention to detail when dealing with financial data. Ability to diagnose issues that aren’t obvious, particularly across integrated systems. Confidence working with both technical teams and business users. An understanding that this role is about service continuity and financial accuracy, not just uptime.

Why This Role

You’ll be working on systems that are central to how the Council operates, where volumes are high, processes are complex, and the expectation is that everything works. It’s a role for someone who prefers solving real problems over following scripts.

Equal Opportunities

Birmingham City Council is an accredited Disability Confident Leader employer, and we are committed to employing, retaining and developing all of our people. We are also an equal opportunities employer – we are committed to providing a recruitment journey that is inclusive and equitable.

Legal & Practical Requirements

Proof of Right to work in the UK will be required for all applicants in accordance with UK Home Office requirements, before any employment offer can be confirmed.
