We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated staff nurse to join our team on Paul Wood ward, specialist cardiology ward at the Royal Brompton hospital.

Paul Wood ward is a specialist cardiology ward, where we care for a variety of patients with cardiac problems, working collaboratively with multiple medical teams. Our caseload includes patients with congenital heart conditions, heart failure, inherited cardiovascular disease and infective endocarditis. We also look after patients post structural procedures (such as TAVI and TEER).

We are a dedicated, supportive and ambitious team offering excellent training and development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The staff nurse will work across the team to gain experience in looking after a varied range of specialist cardiology patients, offering unique opportunities to develop skills and experience in cardiology care.

The post holder will be required to provide the highest standard of individualised and holistic patient care in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, supervise and teach junior members of staff and learn as required and maintain their own personal development with support from the senior nursing team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of recent and ongoing professional development
  • Experience of EPIC Patient record system
  • Working towards or has attained an MSc in nursing

Experience

  • Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting.
  • Awareness of current professional nursing issues.
  • Current working knowledge and skills within a Level 1 ward area
  • Current experience of cardiac monitoring
  • Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
  • Awareness of the structure and organisation of the wider NHS

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to plan and organise workload.
  • Proven communication skills and ability to negotiate.
  • Ability to supervise registered and unregistered staff.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues e.g., handling complaints, clinical risk management.
  • Awareness of quality & safety standards and ward audit requirements.
  • Ability to maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care.
  • Experience in venipuncture and cannulation
