Operation Requirements
The successful applicant will be required to work the majority of their time on campus. WMG at the University of Warwick is undertaking a significant investment in Research & Teaching academic recruitment across several strategically important growth areas. As part of this coordinated campaign, we are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Applied Artificial Intelligence to contribute to internationally leading research, innovation, and teaching within WMG’s collaborative and industry-focused environment.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and application of artificial intelligence technologies that address complex real‑world challenges across manufacturing, mobility, engineering systems, creative technologies, simulation, and digital environments. Working closely with academic, industrial, and international partners, the successful candidate will help develop innovative AI‑driven solutions with clear real‑world impact.
The successful candidate will contribute to high‑quality research, collaborative funding activity, postgraduate supervision, and research‑informed teaching across areas including machine learning, deep learning, generative AI, visual computing, intelligent systems, digital twinning, and human‑AI interaction.
WMG offers a highly interdisciplinary environment with strong industrial engagement, access to world‑class facilities, and extensive opportunities to collaborate across advanced manufacturing, automation, transport, simulation, and digital engineering domains.
Appointments will be considered at either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level depending on experience, research profile, leadership trajectory, and funding track record.
About You
You will hold a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related discipline and demonstrate expertise aligned to applied AI research and innovation.
We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of:
- machine learning and deep learning
- generative AI
- visual computing and simulation
- intelligent engineering systems
- digital twinning
- human‑AI interaction
- AI for manufacturing and industrial systems
- AI for transport and intelligent mobility
You should demonstrate the ability, or strong potential, to develop internationally recognised research through publications, collaborative projects, funding activity, and engagement with industrial and academic partners.
Candidates applying at Associate Professor level should demonstrate an established research profile and evidence of academic leadership, while Assistant Professor candidates should demonstrate strong potential to develop an independent and impactful research trajectory within a collaborative environment.
We particularly welcome candidates who are enthusiastic about interdisciplinary working, industry engagement, and translating research into meaningful real‑world impact.
