About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and motivated Team Manager to lead our Kinship & Special Guardianship Order (SGO) Support Team and Private Fostering Team. This is a rewarding opportunity to lead services that make a lasting difference to children, young people, carers, and families across Devon. You will oversee the delivery of high-quality support services for kinship carers and private fostering arrangements, ensuring children and young people receive the care, stability, and support they need to thrive. Your leadership will be key in driving service delivery, supporting team development, and ensuring all statutory responsibilities are fulfilled to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the SGO Support Team and Private Fostering Team, overseeing day-to-day service delivery, support, and assessments.
  • Ensure high-quality support services are provided to kinship carers, SGO families, and private fostering arrangements.
  • Manage and support a team of social workers and family practitioners.
  • Work collaboratively with social work teams, families, carers, and multi-agency partners to ensure children’s needs are effectively met.
  • Oversee assessments of need and the development of support plans for carers and families.
  • Ensure statutory duties and safeguarding responsibilities are carried out effectively and in line with legislation and best practice.
  • Manage budgets and resources efficiently to support effective service delivery.
  • Promote a culture of restorative practice, reflection, and continuous learning within the team.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Social Work qualification and registration with Social Work England.
  • Significant experience within children’s services, particularly in fostering, kinship care, or special guardianship.
  • Proven leadership and management experience, ideally within a local authority or similar setting.
  • Strong knowledge of legislation and legal frameworks relating to kinship care, SGOs, and private fostering.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience managing budgets and resources effectively. High-level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with children, families, carers, and partner agencies.
  • Sound knowledge of legislation, models, and theories relevant to children’s social work.
  • Exceptional recording, assessment, and planning skills.
