Senior Platform Engineer
Location: Birmingham (must be willing to travel to client sites throughout the UK on an ad hoc basis)
Salary: Competitive salary and package (depending on level of experience)
Security: Any offer of employment is subject to satisfactory BPSS and SC security clearance, which requires 5 years’ continuous UK address history at the point of application.
Responsibilities
We typically work hand‑in‑hand with our clients to build great digital products for them and for their customers. To do this, we need experienced, capable engineers who can both deploy their own mastery to get things done hands‑on and successfully lead others.
Beyond client work, our engineers are essential contributors to our internal and regional engineering communities. There’s scope to get involved and help shape conversations around tech you’re interested in, share your knowledge and experience, and learn from colleagues working in very diverse problem spaces.
Key Technical Areas
AI‑Assisted Engineering
You’ll be expected to responsibly adopt AI‑assisted engineering practices—such as GitHub Copilot, GitLab Duo, and similar tools—for code generation, testing, documentation, and analysis, while understanding model limitations, protecting client data, and improving delivery quality and speed through pragmatic automation.
SRE & Observability
You’ll bring a reliability mindset to delivery, designing services that are operable by default and measured through meaningful SLIs/SLOs. You’ll help teams implement pragmatic observability—logging, metrics, and distributed tracing—with actionable alerting, and you’ll contribute to (or lead) incident response and post‑incident reviews that drive learning and measurable improvements.
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of cloud platforms (preferably AWS/ Azure) and platform core services.
- Strong hands‑on experience in DevSecOps engineering, supporting cloud‑native platforms at scale.
- Proven expertise in Infrastructure as Code, with solid hands‑on usage of Terraform across non‑prod and prod environments.
- Good understanding and practical application of SRE principles (SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, resilience, reliability).
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools, particularly Dynatrace (or similar tools), including alerting, dashboards, and root‑cause analysis.
- Exposure to AIOps practices, leveraging automation and intelligence for proactive issue detection and incident reduction.
- Experience supporting production platforms, including incident management, problem management, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers, influence technical standards, and act as a technical point of escalation.
Benefits
- Competitive basic salary.
- 25 days vacation per year.
- Private medical insurance.
- 3 extra days leave per year for charitable work of your choice.
