We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated Band 6 Dental Nurse Manager for a 12‑month fixed term/secondment position based at Birmingham Dental Hospital.

The role will support the full Group 2 portfolio (Unscheduled Care, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Special Care, Paediatrics, Orthodontics & DOC). Discussions will be had regarding portfolio responsibility with the successful candidate.

Main Duties

Provide flexible dental team support, delivering high quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the integrated Dental Service BDH, CDS and mobile clinics, and additional external sites as required. Act as service‑wide communication conduit for certain specialities or a locality and attend meetings on behalf of the Dental Matron.

Bear responsibility for ordering equipment and stock, ensuring efficient control of levels within one locality or certain specialities by vetting all orders and maintaining the commitment accounting system. Support the Clinical Leads, Divisional Director of Nursing and Therapies, Heads of Service and Dental Matron in the financial management of the service.

Participate in the management and improvement of an integrated Dental Service, including the development of policies and protocols as appropriate.

Manage Dental Nurses and support staff at all grades, including staff appraisal and development, identification of training needs, and coordination of post‑qualification training.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Develop and empower all members of your team to perform to high standards and innovate.
  2. Ensure supportive staff management arrangements are in place and carry out appraisals/personal development reviews (PDRs) for direct reports. Ensure all staff in your team/s have annual PDRs resulting in specific objectives and effective personal development plans.
  3. Develop staff knowledge and skills to promote equality and diversity and address inequalities both in employment and service delivery. Include specific equality objectives in PDRs.
  4. Develop a working culture that ensures Health and Wellbeing and promotes a Great Place to Work and learning for staff.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

  • Dental Nurse Qualification that can be registered with the GDC.
  • Registered with the GDC.
  • Possess a management and/or supervisory qualification.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Post Qualifications such as Radiography, Sedation, Special Care, Oral Health.

Experience

  • Experience of working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Evidence of working on own initiative, development of projects etc.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lead and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to plan and co‑ordinate a number of complex activities.

Other Job Requirements

  • Ability to work flexibly across the Dental Services.
