We are now recruiting for a Senior Network Engineer based in Leyland (Lancashire) or London.

In this role you will be a key member of our Infrastructure team using your excellent technical knowledge and experience to proactively define and develop our environment and procedures and be an expert trouble-shooter for major and critical service incidents. The primary function of this role is to ensure the network infrastructure is secure, robust, resilient and compliant to PCI standards.

This is a hybrid role, working 3 days per week at either our Leyland (Lancashire) or London office and 2 days remotely.

You will be expected to provide on-call support on a rota basis 24/7. Some travel to other UK sites will be required with occasional overseas trips.

Job Accountabilities

  • Ownership and leadership of technical resolution for Networking issues and modernisation initiatives
  • Adherence to company standards for change control, network security and network patterns
  • Lead the technical team during disaster recovery and business continuity operations
  • Define operational procedures and provide necessary documentation and diagrams
  • Lead and support network delivery requirements for Service Improvement initiatives
  • Design and lead internal projects and deliveries aligned with the network roadmap
  • Support the architecture teams in developing the network roadmap
  • Identify new technologies and services to transform the network service
  • Work with Project Managers and IT Service Managers to ensure project delivery meets the estate requirements.
  • Responsible for completing tasks, focusing on requirements and client needs which you will help to identify, advise and recommend technical solutions based on experience and industry knowledge
  • React quickly and as necessary to live systems errors and service problems to limit downtime and resolve problems
  • Support the implementation of strategy and policy issues by involvement in change and/or advice to other technical areas and make recommendations to improve procedures and working practices
  • Improve knowledge of the systems processes and technologies, infrastructure and service development processes, both current and emerging technology
  • Interface with other areas sharing your technical knowledge and expertise and resolving issues as necessary
  • Lead the resolution of issues on during delivery
  • Administration, configuration, backup and patching of Cisco Network hardware.

To be considered for this role, we need you to have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

  • Extensive network domain experience operating in a senior capacity
  • Expert knowledge of network administration on Cisco routing, switching and Cisco ASA firewalls.
  • A good working knowledge of Checkpoint firewalls
  • Expert in working with Vendor technical support staff, including vendor development teams
  • Expertise in defining technical plans and procedures
  • Expert in multiple Cisco routing, switching and security technologies with a strong background in Cisco ASA and Cisco Nexus
  • Demonstrable experience of network performance tuning and capacity management on critical customer-facing systems
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated environment and the associated processes and tools
  • A strong working knowledge of company infrastructure components and the processes required to maintain the infrastructure
  • A good understanding of the business areas and application/service components used and an appreciation of applications from both a technical and business perspective
  • Knowledge of Network protocols, MPLS, Software Defined Networks and WANs (SDWAN, Zero Trust Network, SASE)
  • Knowledge of Border Gateway Protocol
  • Experience of Cisco CCIE, Cisco CCNP – Routing and Switching, Cisco CCNP – Security, Cisco ASA Firewalls
  • Knowledge of Cisco UCS Networking (optional)
  • Knowledge of Border Gateway Protocol, VPN configuration & Cloud Networking (Azure Express Route)
  • Knowledge and experience of Palo Alto Firewall’s and Global Protect VPN.
  • Configuration of site to site VPN’s
  • Enterprise level experience of working in a large/international corporate environment
  • An understanding of and extensive experience with Solarwinds and similar network monitoring & configuration tools such as Auvik, Logic Monitor, Netbrains
  • Experience or knowledge of working with cloud virtual networks and gateways such as those found in Azure and AWS.
