This internal opportunity is open to employees of RUH, GWH and SFT. The Medical Information Officer will play a central role in advancing the digital clinical transformation agenda and supporting the implementation and optimisation of the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system.
Main Duties
As a Medical Information Officer, you will act as a vital link between clinical teams, digital workstreams and the wider EPR programme.
You will champion the adoption of digital clinical workflows, ensure system design aligns with real‑world clinical practice, promote high standards of clinical documentation and data quality, contribute to robust data governance frameworks and support the safe, effective and compliant use of digital systems across the organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive digital transformation initiatives that enhance usability, interoperability and clinician engagement, identifying opportunities for innovation such as AI and clinical decision‑support tools.
- Support training and education to build digital capability and confidence among clinical teams.
- Develop and maintain robust data governance frameworks and ensure compliance with NHS Digital standards, GDPR and data governance principles.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align EPR design with clinical workflows and improve data quality.
- Contribute to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of EPR clinical workflows and data governance processes.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- GMC registration and licence to practice
- Significant clinical experience in an acute care setting
- Proven track record of clinical leadership or service improvement
- Experience using electronic health records (EHR) and digital clinical systems
- Understanding of clinical workflows and patient safety principles
- Awareness of NHS Digital standards, GDPR and data governance
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualification in Health Informatics, Digital Health or related field
- Training in clinical safety (e.g., DCB0129/0160 compliance)
- Participation in digital transformation projects or system implementation
- Experience in data analytics or clinical decision support tools
- Knowledge of interoperability standards such as FHIR or SNOMED CT
- Familiarity with AI and emerging digital health technologies
- Project management skills
- Training and education delivery experience
