We are partnering with a leading insurer to recruit an experienced Senior Marine Underwriter to join their high-performing Cargo & Freight team, based in either Birmingham or Manchester.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a well-established and diverse book of SME and mid-market marine cargo and freight risks, with premiums typically ranging from £2.5k to £100k.
  • Mix of new business and renewals, with broker engagement and market development to support growth.
  • Take ownership of your portfolio, exercising underwriting authority with confidence and sound commercial judgment.
  • Bring depth of expertise in marine cargo and freight; help shape underwriting strategy, support junior underwriters, and drive profitability and service excellence.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience in marine cargo and/or freight underwriting, ideally with exposure to mid-market and more complex risks.
  • Solid understanding of marine clauses, logistics, and global supply chain exposures.
  • Ability to operate confidently within underwriting authority.
  • Strong broker-facing skills, a collaborative mindset, and a proven track record of underwriting profitable business in a fast-paced, commercial environment.
