The Role

As a Production Engineer within the allocated Design Team, your main role will be delivering design solutions, ensuring they are fit for manufacture, and effecting tangible improvements to the delivery of the Design & Manufacture teams.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll explore and test the problem space thoroughly in coordination with the Design & Manufacture teams, driving DFX input, and be prepared to lead the presentation of DFX at design reviews and group critiques drawing on more senior member’s knowledge as required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviews: You will lead on production engineering/DFX aspects at formal design reviews and be able to explain the thinking behind concepts at these reviews with confidence
  • Delivery: You will lead the delivery of robust production engineering solutions, balancing competing requirements to achieve optimal outcomes while clearly articulating and managing assumptions, risks and change across the project lifecycle
  • Technical: You will be experienced in the design, manufacture and delivery of complex systems and components, applying independent inspection and measurement to support a structured, scientific approach to problem solving
  • Governance: You will play a key role in governance and safety, contributing to Hazard Identification (HazID) activities and producing or reviewing local test and manufacturing procedures

Essential experience of the Production Engineer:

  • We would expect the individual to have an understanding and some experience of the following competency areas: Coatings, Corrosion, Materials Science, Materials Selection, Concept Design & Development
  • Experience designing technical hardware solutions and/or translating these into a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of working within a bespoke/R&D low volume production environment.
  • Significant experience creating manufacturing plans, job sheets, manufacturing process specifications
  • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing engineering fundamentals

Essential qualifications for the Production Engineer:

  • HNC/HND/Degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Production Engineering (or equivalent experience)

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Gosport site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
